2017 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT REPORT
Engaged In Our Community
Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) updated its outreach effort in 2017 to emphasize improving the education, health and environment of the community in which we live and work.
Tidewater Community College STEM Program
ERC gave $60,000 to the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation to cover one year of tuition for 10 students pursuing science technology, engineering and math disciplines in the associates degree STEM program. ERC committed to give $60,000 to the program again in 2018.
Good Citizen Scholarship
Designed to reward students who consistently reflect excellence and leadership in character by making positive contributions to their school and community, ERC gives eight high school seniors—one from each high school in Norfolk and Portsmouth —a $1,200 scholarship for any college, trade school or post-secondary institution expense. The scholarship is eligible to be renewed each year at $1,500 starting in 2018.
ERC is committed to helping customers switch to E-ZPass, which is why we distribute E-ZPass On-the-Go Kits across Hampton Roads. Each complimentary kit includes an E-ZPass transponder, mounting strips, installation instructions and a $35 toll prepaid toll balance, ready to use as soon as our customer care representative sets up the customer’s E-ZPass account. Follow @DriveERT on Facebook and Twitter to see where we will be distributing On-the-Go kits next!
ERC also distributes E-ZPass Reload Cards at the DriveERT Customer Care Center. Reload Cards are a great alternative for customers who want to replenish their E-ZPass account with cash. Our representatives provide the customer with a Reload Card and add their cash to it, then once the customer links their Reload Card to their E-ZPass account, their account will be successfully replenished. Unlike other local retailers, ERC does not charge a processing fee for this service.
ERC made contributions to many local organizations including, but not limited to:
ERC has also partnered with Hampton Roads Transit to provide 15-minute service through the tunnel on bus routes 44 and 45 and 30-minute service to Portsmouth on the ferry, all during peak hours.
In May 2017, ERC sponsored a Free Ferry Weekend during the Waterside District grand opening, providing free rides to and from Norfolk and Portsmouth during ferry operating hours Saturday and Sunday.
Streamlined Customer Care
In 2017, ERC Customer Care made positive changes with more planned for 2018.
Rate of issues resolved on the first call increased to 70% in 2017.
